Li, "Weather Routing-Based Multi-Energy Ship Microgrid Operation Under Diverse Uncertainties: A Risk-Averse Stochastic Approach," in IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, vol. 16, no. 6, pp. 4648-4659, Nov. 2025, doi: 10.1109/TSG.2025.3604590.

The seminar will be highly relevant for professionals and researchers in multi-energy systems, maritime microgrid, hydrogen integration, uncertainty handling, and sustainable grid operation.

Maritime transport faces increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, while ship operations are highly affected by uncertain weather conditions that impact propulsion energy and safety. This motivates the development of an integrated weather routing and multi-energy management strategy to achieve safer and more energy-efficient voyages.

Mr. Zhineng Fei (Aalto University) will introduce our group’s latest work on integrating weather routing with multi-energy ship operation. The work develops a risk-averse two-stage stochastic model and a Tailored Progressive Hedging algorithm to enable efficient and reliable voyage planning under uncertain weather and cold ironing prices.
