Abstract: Species distribution modeling refers to algorithmic analyses of species occurrence over time and space used in conservation biology, ecology and evolution. In this talk I will highlight similarities between species distribution modeling and recommender systems tasks in machine learning. I will discuss how model optimization criteria could be tailored for modeling companionship of species and reconstructing their relative abundances.
