Call for Scientific Presentations

AI Day 2021

The main annual event highlighting Finnish AI research and its applications taking place November 4, 2021.

Organized by Finnish Centre for Artificial Intelligence FCAI in collaboration with Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society FAIS.

The scientific program of AI Day 2021 is organized by Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society FAIS (Suomen tekoälyseura STeS). Following the principles of FAIS, a key aim of the scientific program is to provide a thorough overview of the various AI research directions currently pursued in Finland. To this end, we encourage submissions presenting recent research results and innovative applications of all areas of AI, including (but not restricted to):

  • Agent-based and Multi-agent Systems (MAS)

  • Computational Intelligence (CI)

  • Computer Vision (CV)

  • Constraints, Satisfiability and Optimization (CSO)

  • Games and Virtual Environments (GAME)

  • Heuristic Search (HEU)

  • Human Aspects in AI (HAI)

  • Human Computer Interaction (HCI)

  • Information Retrieval and Filtering (IRF)

  • Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR)

  • Machine Learning (ML)

  • Multidisciplinary Topics and Applications (MULT)

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP)

  • Planning and Scheduling (PLAN)

  • Robotics (ROB)

  • Safe, Explainable, and Trustworthy AI (XAI)

  • Semantic Technologies (SEM)

  • Uncertainty in AI (UAI)

The focus of the scientific program is on communicating forefront research accomplishments of the Finnish AI research community already published or to-be-published in international peer-reviewed publication forums. To this end, we invite submission of abstracts up to 2000 characters, ideally accompanied by an already published or recently submitted scientific article on the topic. In case  the work has already been published, a submission may consist of the paper abstract and the paper pdf as a supplement. Additionally, supplemental material can be provided in the form of e.g. a video presentation, online demonstration, poster, or a related system demonstration. As there will be no published formal proceedings, submitting work for presentation at AI Day 2021 will not disqualify the work from being published at peer-reviewed forums.

Submissions are invited through CMT at https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/AIDAY2021.

Important Dates

  • Abstract submission deadline: September 15, 2021

  • Notifications: October 8, 2021

The submissions will be screened for suitability, with an emphasis on scientific relevance in terms of AI research and interest to the Finnish AI research community broadly interpreted. A key aim in the selection of presentations is to obtain a balanced scientific program covering the various AI research directions pursued in Finland. The program committee consists of the current board members of FAIS, with expertise on a wide range of AI research areas.

Accepted presentations will be demonstrated in scientific sessions focusing on different AI research areas through selected live presentations (expectedly around 12 min in length) and/or poster presentations. Detailed instructions on the final form of scientific presentations will be provided later to authors of accepted presentations. Accepted presentations may be presented online in case physical participation is not possible to the authors.

AI Day 2021 registration fees will be waived for at least one author of each accepted presentation.
