Company participation

We expect around 150 talented ELLIS PhD students to participate in the symposium at the Aalto University Campus in Otaniemi at the end of August (28 Aug – 1 Sept 2023). For the special career day (29.8.2023) we will invite even more PhD students from the local networks (Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) and Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT)). Please find detailed information about ELLIS, the symposium and your benefits as a company participant below.

About ELLIS

European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) is a network of excellence that gathers together the top machine learning researchers, with a mission to harness the best European expertise and make Europe more attractive to talent.

The network operates through ELLIS Units and joint programs. ELLIS Units are located across Europe and they facilitate wide collaboration. Beyond just a virtual network amongst institutions, Units are new working environments enabling outstanding researchers to combine cutting-edge research paired with the creation of start-ups and industrial impact. ELLIS Unit Helsinki is hosted by the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI. A few ELLIS Units will be expanded to ELLIS Institutes having a key role in the network. We aim at establishing an ELLIS Institute in Finland. Read more →

ABout the ELLIS Doctoral Symposium 2023

The annual ELLIS Doctoral Symposium (EDS) is the highlight of the year in the ELLIS PhD Program, giving top PhD students from the European machine learning community an opportunity to discuss their research during keynote talks and poster sessions, to network with leading machine learning experts and industry partners, and to interact with each other at social events. This year, it is organised at Aalto University in Finland during 28.8.-1.9.2023.

Career day (29.8.2023)

The purpose of the career day is to enhance the career prospects of our students and cultivate a strong connection between ELLIS and our industry partners. During the day, the industry partners and sponsors will reach out to our doctoral students in the form of presentations and direct conversations with them. The highlights of the day:

  • The industry fair, a poster session for companies with the chance to present their AI-related projects and job opportunities to the participating students. Companies will have access to a booth and poster space where they can display their AI-related work with interested students and get to know prospective interns or future employees

  • The industry speed-dating session, in which students and companies are matched to engage in one-on-one discussions.

In addition to these, the day will include a student poster session (with a third of students presenting), a tooling session (a session on research-related technology and tools) and lunch. We hope that getting in contact with motivated and driven researchers of related fields gives our partners access to the best future workforce and our students the best chance to meet and get to know their best-matched future employers.

Your benefits as a COMPANY PARTICIPANT:

  • Showcase the company work on AI to top PhD students during the career fair

  • Advertise internship and job opportunities during the career fair

  • Direct access to the students through conversations during the career day: At the student poster session, lunch and other breaks.

  • For full sponsors, the access to students becomes even wider with the chance to see all student poster sessions and participation in all activities.

Sponsoring levels:

  • Career-day ticket: €1000 - Entry to the career day for max. 3 people, speed-dating slots with students and a poster booth during the industry fair.

  • Sponsorship ticket: €5000 - Participation to the whole symposium for 3 people + career-day ticket + a large television screen for presentations during the career fair + higher visibility in our promotional material.

  • 4 Student poster sessions, where students share and discuss their work with each other.

  • 4 Keynotes. We have confirmed speeches from Prof. Yarin Gal (Oxford University), Prof. Ryan Cotterell (ETH Zürich), and Prof. Amir Zamir (EPFL), and one unconfirmed.

  • 2 tooling sessions, where students share knowledge on research-related tools.

  • The industry fair during the career day, a poster session for companies with the chance to present their AI-related projects and job opportunities to the participating students.

  • The industry speed-dating session during the career day, in which students and companies are matched to engage in one-on-one discussions.

  • A workshop session, where students gather together in focus groups to discuss and share knowledge on topics most interesting to them.

  • Other sessions, including a get-together with local researchers and a session on the new supercomputing capabilities in Finland.

The official program will end with a keynote and a closing ceremony at the Finnish nature centre Haltia at the nearby Nuuksio national park.
